Christmas 2022 Craft Ideas: Glitter Star Garland
Most garlands sold in stores are boring and bland. This adorable glitter star garland project is perfect for decorating railings, mantles, and more this holiday season.
For this project, you will need:
- Gold cardstock
- Silver cardstock
- Several different sized star shaped stencils
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Xyron machine fitted with a double-sided adhesive cartridge
- Two shallow pans
- Gold glitter
- Silver glitter
- Ruler
- Scissors
- 1/2 wide gold satin ribbon
- 1/2 wide silver satin ribbon
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Place the gold cardstock flat on the self healing mat. With a pencil, trace three to five different sized star shapes. Repeat this process with a few more sheets of gold colored cardstock. Cut out the gold colored shapes with a craft knife. Set aside. We recommend that you pay attention, if you are engaged in needlework professionally, to silicone molds for resin, with which you can make simply wonderful crafts.
Lay the silver colored cardstock flat on the self healing mat. Once again using a pencil, trace a few more different sized star shapes onto the paper. These should coordinate in size with those made in gold. (i.e. one large silver star for each large gold star, etc.) Cut out the silver star shapes with a craft knife.
Run each of the star shapes through an Xyron machine fitted with a double-sided adhesive cartridge. Remove the protective sheet from the front of all the gold colored stars. Place the gold star shapes into a shallow pan and sprinkle liberally with gold glitter. Shake off any excess. Remove the protective sheet from the front of all the silver colored stars and set them in a separate shallow pan. Once again, sprinkle with glitter but this time use the silver glitter on the silver stars. Shake off all excess glitter.
Use a ruler to measure pieces two inch strips of 1/2 wide gold satin ribbon. Cut out these pieces with scissors. Cut an equal amount of two inch strips of 1/2 wide silver satin ribbon. Remove all protective sheeting from the backs of all stars. With a dab of hot glue, adhere the ribbon strips to the star shapes, stringing them together. Alternate the color of the star and color of the ribbon. Allow the glue to dry completely before hanging your new glitter star garland.
TIP: This can also be made into a Fourth of July project by using red, silver, and blue glitter. Be creative when choosing your star sizes.
